The Earthly Vehicle indisposed…

Stranded in California by cascading automotive uncertainties leaves us no alternative but to attend the Band’s annual benefit car show at the foot of First on a near perfect Sunday morning; those knowledgeable will doubtless identify many of the objects depicted,

After noon attendance was compromised when a building on First at D caught fire, attracting many emergency vehicles and closing off direct access to the green…

The last time I went to a show like this, The Goodguys at Pleasanton, the owners all seemed to be pretty old, like they have been doing this for the last 50 years, was that the case here?

That’s pretty much the way this is, too, and when the fire engines started pouring down the street my first thought was “heart attacks”…but they kept coming and coming and it WAS a fire, after all. The bright and shiny things seem definitely the province of the older guys, who just keep refining and refining; these kinds of shows are definitely their deal for the most part. The younger ones [WAY younger than me or us] are out there doing interesting, more retro or creative variations…rougher, sometimes, but really cool. And then of course there’s Shawn, Linda’s studio assistant, with his crazy low Econoline with the Jetta diesel…
