Friday was a welter of loading out…first the foods [forgot mozzarella, goat cheddar, buckwheat honey and all the dogs’ fish oils], then Linda’s last bags, topped off with my overnight and, ah,
twenty minutes to sit, catch breath and catch up a tiny bit with Luz
while holding L’s frail little hand until it was
10:17, time to Leave Libre…
down the washboardy gravels to 69, Red Rock Road and, dogs mystified,
I-25 north until google sent us on a strange circumambulation around Fountain
duly landing us
at COS, right on time for Bryan to emerge, both of us to grab a bite of Luz’ last night’s steak
on the tailgate and for him to drive up to and around Denver,
intersecting 70 West at a chaotic Maverik truckstop where I took over, across [or under, actually,
it being the Eisenhower Tunnel] the Great Divide and down…more traffic, more tunnels,
hardly any snow…to Glenwood Springs where Bryan then took us to Fruita for gas,
El TapatÃo where he dropped me to search for [faraway Friday night] parking and where after copious dinners the dogs were quite relieved when he picked me up on his way to La Quinta
across the street where we all soon crashed…for me the best sleep in many weeks.
