The Summer of Pegmatite

The local pegmatite being 1.4 to 1.7 billion years old rendered it an Object of Endless Fascination as small rains contributed to heroically late grasses in all our minor drainages

while one evening several birthdays [Robert’s, Joan’s and Linda’s] were simultaneously

celebrated with [not birthdaying] me and Mary Ann. The weather continued to improve,

L. continued to make marks and I continued to make it upstairs…

Cool days continued to be accompanied by small and not so small precipitations,

greening up the gulleys.

We even had a fire one night

as well as a last trip to Pueblo,

much more amenable now that summer’s over,

for Safeway, Sonora’s, a visit to the dentist for a cleaning as well as

one to our all time favorite tire shop, a stop at the former Cottage for some last groceries

on our way to America, the midwest of which begins abruptly east of Blende, where we sought produce and Pueblo Chile Burgers at Milberger Farms before

crossing back to Gag’s in the Bessemer followed by, two stops down the freeway, Kaiser Acero

for vaccinations in anticipation of the travails ahead and finally away at 3:02, phew, L. driving

after gas in Colorado City to slippy roads the last bit up to Libre and home to unload

in the rain…Not much left of September now and most of it spoken for..
