California, first Monday and then some…

While L. rested I charged off to Vallejo first thing Monday to belatedly complete imaging and

labwork for my imminent knee replacement then

finding the ’45 wouldn’t start went Safeway shopping Tuesday in the Taco after which word came down from the Huerfano that the County Commissioners had unanimously shot down

the GrowAway scam! After lunch I awaited Scott for a ride to Joe’s to collect the resurrected Mini, researched Washoe ballots and voted… next day found what I think is the faulty ground

on the little truck, mailed the ballots, ran the offending part by Scott but he couldn’t do much for it so took it to John York who thinks he can make something better but it will have to wait until I’m back on my feet after Thursday’s procedure…this was followed by

another dinner in the library, trepidatious preparation in the night and next morning Bryan here early to walk the dogs, no foods…at ten just as I was about to open the pre-surgery carbonated drink and chug it down “two hours before arrival” Linda found herself dizzy and weak in the shower, straits sufficiently dire to call the advice nurse who put her in touch

with a doctor who strongly urged her to go to the emergency room so instead of Bryan taking me to Vacaville for that long-anticipated knee we spent the day in Vallejo, returning home with a diagnosis of dehydrated anemia [most likely caused by the recent hospital regimen of meds, blood draws, edema etc.] and a prescription for iron pills and Red Meat…Since unfortunately

we weren’t able to join my olive pickin’ sibs at Il Focolare it had to be steak fajitas from Elvia Rita’s and the next day, back in the caregiver/catching up mode, I tried another ground on the ’45 without success so after lunch got the Taco washed, sent a number of texts marveling at what Trump’s War* has done to fuel prices,

diesel in particular, made an appointment to eliminate the  “service reqd” light, talked with John about when I could have the ’45 dragged over to the SL Werke and then, Bryan on his way to exercise the dogs, got a long overdue haircut and that much-deferred cappuccino crunch cone on the way home, figuring if I can’t have a knee I can at least have an ice cream.

Evening meals in the library, trying to get L. eating again among our special collections

[including but not limited to Shipibo and Zuni [bg] pottery**]

and dogs, who will finish off whatever we don’t…

That was also, coincidentally, the last night of October, last night of Daylight Savings

and Halloween…although the scariest house by far,

year ’round, is probably the one next door across the parking lot.

Earlier that day, on the eve of his departure for the Big Island, Scott had come by with a grinder in a last ditch attempt to make the ’45 go, which it didn’t but with a come-along scavenged from Linda’s rolling gantry we were able to maneuver it within range of next week’s tow truck.

Sunny days; Sunday I even lured L. out into the warmth of it for lunch [hers not shown]

and though her recovery remains slow…

we persevere. Severely…and await the Results [and possible resulting mayhem] of Tuesday.

*Netanyahu and Trump’s war, really.

**Hopi, Mata Ortiz and Navajo figure as well.  We won’t get into the Frankoma…or Planet X.
