The cacophony of coyotes came later; first came a Disappointment of Dogs upon arriving at Wall Spring to discover their long-anticipated well-watered ditches and ponds to be…nonexistent;
The sculptures were still parked, however.
After a walk in said Park L. headed back down 447, blissfully unpopulated first thing in the morning, as I puzzled over the missing water…
while haunted by herons the few remaining fish floundered desperate in puddles…
…without the water, definitely hotter.
After Friday night’s dinner next door the cacophony of coyotes came Saturday, seemingly surrounding us, albeit to no apparent ill effect.
Dave crossing the desert, or a part of it anyway, in his finely detailed nearly vintage Dodge on his way here, where we fussed with the wells for nearly an hour until, finally giving up on koi, we cranked lowers wide open to increase flow to the nearly dry lunch pond, which seemed to work. Then, six hours later,
the koi well began flowing strong as it ever was; barometric low, barometric well
…and TVs in the Wall Spring tree.
Sunday the neighbors took off for a tour of obscure volcanic parks and the smokes moved in,
their yellow glare and smell of unseen fires making for an uneasy afternoon and hazy evening.
But the wells kept producing, the dogs anticipated the daily walks
and watching the waters return made everybody happy.
Dust still blows down over Gerlach from the [sort of] recently vacated site of Black rock City…as it will for awhile. Doesn’t matter much to a Leptron Dog, however…
Don’t matter much at all…even unto the last last day of his summer…
…a day which came up blustery and a bit chill
but did clear off partway through; most pleasant, really.
…ending nicely, ending “the summer”, to sum it up, or
so it would seem.

Like the end of summer but with a touch of the end of time. Finding the ponds dry must have been un-nerving, and the unseen fire. But the sculptures look very fine–like mysterious clues to be discovered by future explorers of the earth.
Wow! is the beginning of the new Wall Spring Sci-Fi? Lucky the cutest pup ever is totally unphased.
Uhpased is Lefty’s middle name…even California is taken in stride…
Dust and smoke, ticking time and seasons passing; disappearing water and howling coyotes! There’s no shortage of drama at Wall. Dogs and art prevail, and hopefully some fish.
Looking like my part of the world, dry beds and orange/yellow light. Our Fire is well documented and should be under control near the end of September.
