Well, weatherwise, anyway, though “the same” might not be exactly appropriate insofar as
though no records were being broken for warm weather in February* records for sustained and dry might be another story. If anyone’s telling stories. Meanwhile with more than a little help from Scott Zoog the pond was drained [though the outside electrical problems persisted
despite many efforts**] as I continued, for stories, to rely on Eve when not obsessing
over “Shetland” until we ran out of episodes or trying to interpolate local lore from local hints.
Meanwhile the locality went its own little way with a wino-chocolate weekend though
with scant chocolate in evidence it did bring up the question of Why, in such an aspiring destination-ary town, we don’t have a decent chocolatier or two to fall back on.
Nobody knows why though I did, after a mere 21 years,
“discover” a way to circumnavigate the shoreline from farthest West H back to the bottom
of West Second, thanks,
and thanks to Lucca Wednesday evening
for not only a wet blandburger***, fish and chips good for the first bite, but wine and service good enough to make it a swell night out for us, the desperate, despite.
*By the time this posted records were being broken daily.
** Scott was back after the weekend and he and L. got it all sorted out most successfully…
*** A burger lusciously described [and in former times actually quite good] but pathetically executed. It was also discovered that the menu’s “steak cut fries” is currently a euphemism for soggy sliced potatoes.
With records being broken, a chocolatier could only survive in Benicia (and most of scorching California) with very robust air conditioning. Otherwise their wares would be watery, joining Lucca’s bland and soggy cuisine in a dubious combination.
Meanwhile, it’s good those outdoor electrical problems have been solved since current weather conditions can turn a wayward spark into a catastrophe. Our state’s 24/7/365 fire season seems to beg for an investment (and an intake) of wine.
Stay cool, if you can; even the coast is roasting this winter!
Come to Rossland- not only to we have a super chocolatier, but also a fantastic bakery that makes delectable chocolates too…small but mighty, we are!
It was your little town I was thinking of as a shining example, actually…
There was a Renaissance Italian collector (the name does not immediately come to mind) who only had resources to collect works on paper. I saw an exhibition of some of this collection at the British Museum and the collection contained many fabulous drawings of mutant lemons. The one you photographed is a super specimen! In these photos, Benicia looks quite lovely — don’t know if it is the bright blue or bright green.
