Coming down the desert the news was all about the Twit’s latest Trumper, declaring it’s yet
yet again time [following an American tradition not confined to the current admin.] to hang our allies out to dry. It sure worked with Mao back in the day and many times since so what harm
could possibly come from shafting the Kurds [again]?
Ah well, here in California it’s more about shafting the public as PGE, having chosen litigation over mitigation [and deservedly losing], is putting Shareholders First in textbook Late Capitalist fashion and will now wreak its corporate revenge by shutting down hundreds
of thousands of customers [costing them, but neither their shareholders nor the more nefarious offshore Owners, billions] because winds up to – oh holy shit! – forty miles an hour
[returned home to cones]
are predicted across vast swaths of northern California where, too busy defending themselves against past screw-ups, they’ve neglected to Correct The Problems. East of the Sierra, where winds of considerably higher velocity are not unknown, the local utility does not feel similarly punitive measures need to be implemented… something to do with putting infrastructure first; a better investment in the long term, but long term does not figure into Disaster Capitalism. So blatant evidence of corporate greed and cluelessness abounds, especially live on TV where their flacks, artfully costumed as ordinary f-ng people in cute little fleece vests [cue Repo Man for
Harry Dean Stanton on OFPs], blither and blather on about how this shutdown shit won’t quit until both the weather and forest management are Corrected…NOT when PGE buries their lines or otherwise implements appropriate safeguards, because that would cost the Owners…Real Money. So, gang, what’s better; a publicly held public utility or a publicly traded one?
Meanwhile we were off to Vacaville hoping the shortsighted idiots wouldn’t cut the power to Kaiser during Linda’s second surgery which, despite being as breezy out there as always this time of year, they didn’t. The second eye procedure promised to be another happy success,
but we’ll see. Or at least Linda will see, way way better. [Eye…way, way, get it? Sorry.]
That [after a trip to Vallejo the next day] out of the way I went Friday for Delivery and
install of Teeth long in coming as the world whirled on, cyclically and pretty sick.
But with the impeachment proceeding precisely according to the Repuppetlicans’ plan what could possibly go wrong? Or right, depending on one’s point of view…nevertheless the
’56 Chevys still ply First Street
and giant puppies weaponize cones in anticipation of, what, the dissolution of Congress?
Well, we’ll see…
The final blow was the embrace of Chicago School economics, and the pernicious doctrine that the ONLY measure of success is greater financial profit every quarter. This is taught in every business school in our nation, especially those of our “finest universities”.
I once took in a street cat who begged me for a home. The cone was until his street-fight wounds healed. He hated it,
These guys may not like them but rapidly weaponized them…we’re counting the days until they merely chew on us.
Yeah, we turned and ran on the Kurds. We broke a deal and can’t be trusted, which is Trump’s way of doing business (and life, I guess) but we’ve already established that over breaking the Iran Nuclear Treaty. But what are we doing there in the first place?
Continuing to perpetuate a chaotic colonial mess that goes back at least to the “Great” Powers hacking up of the Ottoman Empire after WWl?
What prompted the cones?
Oh those photos from Nevada are so lovely with that clear air, piercing blue sky and softly muted foliage. I enjoyed them in spite of the background music of political despair and gnashing teeth. We are a third world country: power outages, random shootings and terrorist attacks ( by our own citizens), a shambolic president who usurped the job, caving infrastructure and 400 people EACH making the same wealth on average as 1,308,440 citizens in the bottom 50% of the income ladder…..missing a few rungs in the middle these days. When is going to implode?!
When is He going to Implode?
Good questions, J…
Liked the Mao reference!
the desert must still be a relief
The desert is ALWAYS a relief…
