Christmas morning, plagued with unexpected civilian traffic, we nonetheless made it past Truckee for our lunch stop; perilously warm and dry [good for the drive, though];
East of Sparks the Californians thinned out to nothing…50 East all the way, no hassles;
After a second Christmas dinner in Ely [the first was at Kirk’s the night before] and breakfast at the Border Inn while watching a strange morning talk show with the bartender, we traversed Utah’s Western desert…
…finishing it off with Pogonip in Delta, a very brief bit of winter whiteness…
Midday descent to Green River…
The second night [after a stop to buy boots and a hat in Grand Junction] was Salida, Colorado, where the motel was filled with recreational Texans in huge diesel pickups, but dinner downtown was excellent…and the next morning, shopping done…
We were at Libre in time for lunch on the deck…
Monday we made a quick trip to Springs to meet Luz and Christine for lunch, laying in supplies for the year’s end festivities as well…
