hard to believe it’s here already, and for January
pretty dried out. Or dry-but-wet out, as nights’ dampness
thawed to mud, keeping us off the fields by afternoon.
Meanwhile [above] some faded memories and Kodachromes of Parker Ranch history, ca.1995
as Tuesday brought a brief hint of pogonip,
soon gone.
The next day saw a pathetic excuse for snow
which dripped away first thing…
leaving us a dry-but-wet Thursday – one could get around the ponds while the ground was stiff
but then as usual we were on
the gravel at the end of a day of packing, last day
ending.
That snow looks more like hoar frost.
…and barely there.
I am loving the delicacy of some of these images. I used to hike an area in Santa Cruz called “Pogonip”, but never knew what it meant…..now I do.
A pogonip would be quite rare around Santa Cruz I woulda thought.
