October’s last Saturday, our Cedarville luncheon guests having cancelled due to covid or colds,
I took the opportunity to drive about a bit;
went out to 447 and took a left over the Buffs,
north along Duck Flat/Lake to make a right at Lost Creek,
over the summit
and down
to a left on 34,
right a couple of miles up
to
and, lightheaded in the heat [though not really hot], lunch above and beyond.
Later drove what seemed a long way but wasn’t
to the fork above Wagontire Spring,
turned around
and crept
back down
to Denio Camp.
Still there…
the spring too
so out
to 34,
south into the sun,
Leadville Canyon,
the Hualapai [and pavement]
to the Black Rock,
and home…
six hours about enough for a day these days.*
*Though Out in Colorado, contemplating the maps, I’d contemplated going all the way to Duferrena Rim, hell, even Bog Hot Springs, and back across the Sheldon…eight hours at best.
These days that’s become way too ambitious.
Keep it simple but keep amovin’…
Yup…
I am amazed by this trip and the one from Colorado — traffic free, pretty much. What a wonderful way to drive! The scenery, though spare, was quite wonderful.
