Haawt….and I’m about to get upset, watchin’ my TV…

actually listening to the radio, really…Tuesday, ninth day back, was the first day

I didn’t have to go anywhere first thing so after a quick trip to the nearest mailbox sat down in the studio to reconsider what was in there for the first time since early May which, though

initially confusing, resulted in a few tentative strategies although they didn’t survive much

beyond the next day’s lunch as then it was back to Kaiser to try to find out why one of my eyes doesn’t focus*.   Additionally that may well have been the hottest day of the year here but

whether or not it was first thing Thursday I was over on East H for the Triple Crown; three crowned teeth with a temporary [for the next two weeks] bridge thrown in at the end.

Friday we all enjoyed “Topography Lunch” wherein Dave and Abby came by for avocado toasts from Farm and Flour in the suddenly cooler-than-usual yard and collected Linda’s felt topography of the upper Smoke Creek Desert for its long-anticipated induction into

the map centre, all of which became kinda irrelevant in light of the News that “This revelation came from the White House”, spurring long-awaited-by-some action on Impeachment.  Jeez, interesting timing, no?  Anybody smell a rat here, and a rather devious rat at that?  Or should we say a big ol’ trap for dem Dems.   Or more likely all of THAT is kinda irrelevant…Meanwhile,

what with The Entanglements** roughly cutting picture-taking opportunities in half, we are no longer troubled by those repetitive early morning Views of the Straits, left only with the glare of windy afternoons, an unanticipated prospect of snow in the Sierra Sunday night and a Skype

from Vancouver for Linda’s Saturday Birthday followed by Late Lunches all around.

L.’s birthday dinner wrapped up quite happily at Bella Siena [prosecco by the glass, arugula salad, the sampler platter and, for me, grilled salmon – no disappointments!] as Gaby’s was overrun with noisy celebrants disconcertingly affecting what may have been intended as 1920’s

garb and, on the way home and even weirder, an “exclusive” fashion show glimpsed in a courtyard off First [not shown – you wouldna wanna have seen it, trust me].

Ever cooler weather blew through

[and sturgeon fishing]

with contemplations of works, among them a 1964 painting, damaged child of divorce recently

repatriated and yes folks that really IS a slide projector; I’m compiling an inventory – “metadata” – of my 60+ curated carousels dating back to 1963.  So far we’re up to #15, 1984…

Monday, however, all that was abandoned as Aggie and I commenced a little vacation away

from Those Puppies, crossing the Sierra where the unseasonably early blizzards were rather

vastly overrated to find clear roads and clear skies on the other side as well to learn that out in

California, unlike Nevada, road graders do not feel obliged to pull over to let a person pass on

dirt roads..ah well.  We made it into Washoe despite and the rest will be…

whatever it is.

*A cataract, left eye, the prospect of which would have freaked me more had I not just witnessed Linda’s quite successful operation.

**Continually entangled leashes attached to a current combined GVW of 93 pounds border collie/golden retriever puppies first thing every morning do not encourage picture-taking.

What interesting news, travels, various adventures, people, places, and unpredictable weather. And always terrific photos. The usual fare. I admit to being behind, but Ann and I try to keep up. More so Ann. 😔 Stanford 64 class reunion book arrived today. Very handsome indeed. But no Michael Shannon Moore. What happened? Too busy with the blog I expect. Ah well, first things first. Cheers! Ah, thanks Paul…and as for the Class Book, no, never too busy; I spent quite a lot of time last April putting together a contribution with, for the first time, color pictures [!] and asked the Alumni Assoc. to help with the format as I couldn’t adapt mine to their matrix, which the contact person kindly said they would, and would send a page proof before printing…well, now I know they didn’t…I may not take the time again [for one thing, who knows where any of us will be in five years?].

Indeed, why not me! I only began noticing degeneration about a year ago, only in the left [so far]…Linda will do her other eye next week. I had no idea you’d done it so long ago…

I’m sorry to read about your eye, Mike. On the plus side, my sister had the operation several years ago and she was (and is) thrilled at how bright, clear, and colorful the world now is.

Glad the early season snow did not delay your trip to Wall, although it probably made KM’s hiking around June Lakes area a bit nippy. Clear blue skies on the Smoke Creek look great; nice photos sans-entanglements!
Teeth and now eyes; “car season” has been eclipsed by “senior degeneration season”…. sigh. Not for sissies.

Teeth to eyes; “car season” has succumbed to “senior breakdown season”…. constantly. Ick.
