[Spring, 2017, above] Last Sunday afternoon Linda arrived
with the much-diminished Lefty and all were very glad to be reunited. That evening he happily ate a little salmon and not so happily threw it up an hour or so later. He was not well, perhaps
soon to go so we postponed further action as new lives erupted and
old lives, our lives, went on although Monday morning the idea that a couple of old guys
could lift six deep-cycle batteries off the ground into a pickup unaided
proved wildly optimistic. Fortunately Dave had the mini-x on his trailer en route
to another job, allowing us a mechanical assist.
Later I called a friend in Surprise Valley who knew someone who might have come to ease
Lefty’s departure but failed to reach her so after another sad night and Scott’s heroic delivery of The Forgotten Computer called the vet in Alturas to see what could be done and we arranged
to take that last ride Wednesday morning first thing.
First thing, last thing….last sunset.
Good, good, dog. Sorry to hear the inevitable closed in. What a faithful friend he was to you and Lynda, and others.
Rest in peace, Lefty.
Hard to lose a trusted companion, so much a part of your lives.

Saddest thing, to be with a dying companion. No more rugby. He surely had a wonderful life with you. xoxo
so sorry Lefty has left. His ship came in when you met on that dusty, desolate road all those years ago and you and Linda gave him a life most dogs can only dream of. RIP.
So very very sorry, Michael. One of the hardest things to go through, having to make that decision and keep vigil. Lefty was a great dog.
Our love, Eva and John
Ah, Lefty! An iconic staple around Benicia, Wall and Libre. It won’t be the same without him; what a terrific and loyal companion. We send our sincerest sympathies. We will definitely miss him too.
Thank you all…he was barely there by the end, and in a state of reverie, seemingly…a long eventful life the little guy had.
My condolences to you and Linda. What a great guy Lefty was. And how Lucky, which is what Steve always called him because of how you found him and what a great life you gave him. I am so sorry.
Oh, man, I am so sorry, Mike.
Very sad, Mike. Thinking of you & Linda.
You wrote a loving, poetic and very moving memorial to your Lefty. Thank you for putting it up
For us to see. Stephen
