Museé Day

We were up in the chill morning and over the bridge

to Brian Gross, where the Leo Valledors were better than any of the ones we later saw

[above, L. Fleming and Leo; below Greg with L. Fleming herself among the Valledors

and her maquettes]

at SFMOMA, then drove downtown to the

Mission Street Garage

and went immediately to lunch

at the fifth floor restaurant [FAR more satisfying than that twee ground floor thing]

before circuiting

through a not entirely overwhelming selection of Mr Rauschenberg’s lifetime of works.

We then investigated the reinstalled of the “contemporary” galleries

[Mr. Bell [above] and Mr. Rosenquist

Mr. Bischoff

Mr. Kline and, below, Ms. Mitchell

a Beckmann and a Bechtle

Sandy Calder…]

and hung out in the coffee bar watching videos of various photographers in lieu of their works

which were unavailable as the entire third floor was closed for installation[s].

The day ended in my old Haight Ashbury neighborhood  with my former landlord D. Rumsey

and his amazing wife for a nice early dinner at Zazie before returning east across the bridges, going [back to] to the dogs.

Tuesday was when all this happened.

The contrast between “The City” and Wall Springs is amazing, great shots. (And Bechtle, I haven’t seen his art in years.)

I was happy to see the Bechtle up, too. He continues to thrive, however below the local radar…there are a couple of books out there by now, too.

Your eye for painting(s) is absolutely positively (pretty much) impeccable.

I agree with Sibyl, I enjoy your museum visits. I took a friend to the Bruce Conner exhibit last year and we tried to eat lunch at the “twee” spot you mentioned. I say “tried” because we were both hungry and the tiny, but admittedly delectable servings that cost big bucks hardly satisfied our appetites….I think I paid $12 for some lettuce (artisan of course) on some equally artisan bread….that was it!!
