did TACO cop out on the trip to China?* Last week as the world sank into the sinkhole of mayo[nnaise] and for the real Cinco de Mayo Elviarita’s went from early to late was also
the week following Linda’s introspective odyssey where among other things we lunched in the
garden with Squeak and Gary, talking of New York and puzzling over the enduring conundrum of artists’ legacies [i.e. what to do with all that stuff!] which even they are still puzzling over
despite having founded a Foundation to deal with just that. In other news I was finally and at the very last minute thinking about and perpetrating my own painting as well as considering
others such as Mamma Andersson’s [below] some, somewhat. Additionally all those New York
reflections led us to watch the crazy amazing “Art and Times of Frosty Myers” and enthuse over
it as the week wore on. “When giants walked the earth.”..or at least lower Manhattan.
Spring, drying…
with big boxes heading to the sea, little sailboats on the strait and
a sleekly shaved ’37 Tudor in need of, as Greg pointed out, better wheels**, well.
Long alley,
Long Valley
[#1, acrylic on canvas, 2004]…going there soon…
we hope.
Coming back from Kaiser on a most warm afternoon I found the ever elusive XX Ambar*** at
La Tapatía [“Groceries, Meat Department and Money”] right there on Broadway, yay, and then
it was time for a last and ver’ enjoyable outing with Greg and Kathryn at Lucca to celebrate,
turned out, her retirement from the Library Arts Advisory Committee after All Those Years
as well as Linda’s return from Mark Di Suvero’s opening at Paula Cooper which brought to mind Dirk Van Dall’s beautiful little film “Brothers in Art” for which we all made time to watch the
next day…fourteen minutes well invested – check it out! – on what was otherwise a Lambo Day
in auld Benicia. Anyway…
*Nope, he made it…along with Elon and other ‘luminaries’. On the way to China the Donald assured the world, regarding his and Netanyahu’s gratuitous war against Iran, that “I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation. I don’t think about anybody”…and boarded AF One with his cadre of billionaires and Christian Nationalist racists. Wait ‘n’ see…all for business, hope ya understand. It’s sure looking like a glorified trade delegation out fishing for deals.
**Steelies painted to match the body color with chrome baby moons would do nicely.
**Hadn’t been able to locate any since Ben’s in Winnemucca when I was there last February for my driver’s test.

On the movie front, we saw The Christophers by Stephen Soderbergh last night. It is about Art and Money, sort of, I think you might enjoy it.
Here is the trailer, which says it is available only in theaters, but we streamed it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2d1x7VuDmo
I’d been reading about The Christophers, definitely interesting though where we’re now at streaming is kind of a distant option…on the other hand, if it turns up in Pueblo in July…
