Fortunately six blocks down Military the gas at the 7-Eleven at eleven [PDT] still hadn’t quite broken the five dollar barrier when I filled up to leave Sunday morning and was onto 780,
immediately 680N, then 80E to Eagle Lakes for a bite of last night’s salmon while the dogs rolled
in the twice-used snow after which it was over the hill to 89N, unimpeded
through Sierra Valley to find the gas at
Hallelujah Junction no more than gas in Benicia and the road out of Doyle the best it’s ever been
all the way to 34*…stopped soon after just after Sand Pass to eat an apple and shot a small
panorama. Up the desert, Smoke Creek Bridge, running tired and benumbed to
the Wall Spring gate at 4:08 to
unload, settling in…warm dry early March.
Monday we learned before breakfast that Country Joe MacDonald’d died with lots of clips of his famous Woodstock moment to go along with the reminiscences…the world could use
some more of those no bullshit moments now, more than ever…but instead
I went 48 miles to Empire and back for tortillas [not shown]
with a small stop in Gerlach,
windy all day
and home to sun,
space out…
Two days…
*Variously named and/or renamed “Sand Pass Road” or worse still “Surprise Valley Road” on google and apple but, whatev’…USED to be CR34 anyways.
