As soon as Luz and Izel’s taillights were out of sight we were of course up the creek, dogs ‘n’ all
in the fall though soon enough it was the first of the Last Things, these first last things being Friday’s
trip to the Walsenburg dump, Safeway [shoulda bought salad] and the Habib for a last look
and pick up a box of old oil paintings to take to Wall. Home to the hills the weather veered
briefly into a winter which, however, didn’t last.
Unfortunately what does seem to be lasting is the evil that lurks in the hearts of men and
the corrupt institutions that enable them [Netanyahu not shown and anyway at this point significant numbers of my Fellow Americans are perfectly happy to vote for either the above right or below as long as the Repuppetlican Party and their billionaire “rules are for fools”* boys’ club** tells them to. Not so very mysteriously given everyone’s self interestedness and overall hubris but still depressing, right?]
Nonetheless the life went on,
back to the Glorious Fall
until, another last thing, last trip to Pueblo, Pike’s Peak visible [but not shown] ninety miles in the distance as soon as we hit the freeway, 84 degrees by noon when Linda went in to have
not only a molar but an impacted wisdom tooth extracted, oof, while I took care of fetching the antibiotics from an extraordinarily friendly neighboring Walgreen’s plus a few loose ends
elsewhere on a day so clear the Huajatollas were visible as soon as we left town,
ice on Linda’s cheek, unseasonably warm all the way down 25 to Red Rock Road followed by
our tax dollars at work coming and going on 69 as ever…but home by 2:30
to ice and rest. No more Pueblo until July 10th for my own appointment with Dr. Grimard…
*A demonstrably workable maxim for the lot, or a lot, of them.
**Girls too, actually, given the number of heiresses and widows also dedicated to the cause of perpetuating their self-serving self-interests above all else.
*They* have never thought beyond themselves. No bloody vision or feeling. Grumpfff. We’re all being kettled.
Kettled and scuttled…
