Benicia, California,

continued…still chill mornings but after a quick trip to Vallejo

warm enough for lunch out and, in a last desperate attempt to get the ’45 sorted,

cleaned the air filter [even if the engine compartment isn’t exactly concours quality]

before Tuesday’s deluge, which somewhat stalled on us although

80 remained open over the hill

until around four when the eastbound closed from Colfax,

then dropped down to Applegate, 2040′, where rain was forecast although the image

looked suspiciously snowlike. Within an hour it closed in both directions to Verdi…but we weren’t going anywhere anyway being way too cold and wet to be out loading the truck though Wednesday, after a slightly less frozen walk with Sumi, I ran up to Safeway

for a week’s supplies in anticipation of sunny days ahead, the first of which came, as predicted,

on my 81st

which was mainly spent in packing and loading but ultimately included by a bike ride, collapse,

a sweet birthday card and peaceably enjoyable Thai dinner out…something we should do more often [as opposed to opting for takeout] particularly as it’s just a half block door to door.

Morning brought continuing clarity to the Straits,

ongoing wetness across the Valley as well as constant Friday traffic

all the way into Nevada and beyond Reno

to gas in Wadsworth.ย  Despite a Ranger at the turn off 447 we lunched at the Lake and reached

the Ponds by three, unloading…tired, last of duck soup, lenticulars…darkness, coldness, bed;

next day, April.

    Happy Birthday. yes, great card!
A Gertrude Stein quote, though I don’t remember from where:
“Nobody likes change, but everything always changes.”
    all my best, Fred

Happy Happy Birthday and I’m glad you made it over the hill before the water crisis in Benicia! We are enjoying looking at the weather app down here – no rain for 10 days? One can hope…Lots of love, Deb

Happy Birthday, how great to escape the city for the desert for the occasion.
Whatโ€™s is the symbolism of the Gold Ranch Casino elaborate sign? Is that to be a giant timber anchored in the rock structure as part of a mining operation? And nice $5 logo, I guess for slots, just slip a bill in and kiss it goodbye. The ponds look quite peaceful. ๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‰

Loved the heartfelt b-day card. Years ago you told me your b-day was 1 April; an indirect April Fools joke that I fell for and believed for way too long.
