Leftist fascists in San Francisco, in addition to looking utterly ridiculous, were recently thwarted in pulling a full ISIS in their ongoing attempt to destroy historic murals* at George Washington High School when the only slightly less ridiculous School Board decreed** that the artwork be hidden at a cost of thousands as opposed to completely destroyed at a cost of thousands instead. The concerned “liberals” [liberal in their insistence that everyone adhere to their beliefs] wished to shield affected minorities such as Negroes and Nativist Americans from depictions of negro enslavement and native American genocide by the [exclusively white] “Fathers of Our Country” in a manner in keeping with beliefs shared with others of their ilk such as, say, Islamic Extremists. As one member of the Board succinctly stated “This is not history; it is a remnant from a bygone era.” To fail to acknowledge that in a bygone era This Great Country was founded and built on slavery and genocide seems to me a bit disingenuous, but if the murals contradict what is being fed to the kids in the classrooms one can understand if not sympathize with the “need” for their destruction. All in the name of “sensitivity”, of course. And while we’re at it, let’s make sure we don’t offend the Israelis by allowing congresspersons who disagree with Our Great Leader to travel there; same coin, different side. When the Twit-in-Chief tweets the yahoos*** salivate, particularly that ultimate yahoo, Netan-. We’re all just a bunch of nuke-packin’ treaty-ignorin’ yahoos together here, oh hell yeh. That’s what demockeries are all about, kids…
Meanwhile, on a friendlier planet, the Threesome continued to assimilate without incident.
Our esteemed veterinarian arrived a-horseback on Monday with two dogs in tow to show her niece and nephew [neph came over on the electric bike] the artists’ studios and,
after yet another of Those Dinners later that evening [not shown] with Nancy and Mike,
we made it into Walsenburg, dogless but a bit diminished, for provisions.
Then it was back to the usual under blue high altitudinous skies.
Wednesday was laid waste with three loads of laundry, six trips up and down a ladder to check the filling water tank [burned my hands doing that at the noon hour] and a cord of firewood
to unload before dinner, making the next day’s straggle up the creek a little stiff.
Though barely recovered L. put together a dinner for our neighbor Mary Ann and the excellent Erin Elder who was house-sitting at Leon’s Lounge for some reading, rest and respite…
In the aftermath we saw a sneak in the road on our way up the creek, attempted a recuperative
day in preparation for, ah, yet another party that evening; longtime resident Bill Haynes’ 68th birthday, in the house he and Muriel have turned into one of Libre’s Most Hospitable; sweet! Saturday meant another excuse to get the three dogs together in the truck [getting used to it before the Big Commute in September] for the short trip to the Farmer’s Market
in ever-scenic Gardner…
*this in no way ever considered the artistic significance of the works in question, such considerations being completely beyond the comprehension of willfully visually illiterate political-religious absurdists
**with one Loyal Dissenter still holding out for Eradication
***pronounced “yay-hoo”
So yet another week up the creek…
I always particularly like the occasional photo that could well show an abandoned vehicle left in the brush by some particularly wise and cultured extra-terrestrials, and their the ceremonial piles of firewood. The dogs understand these things perfectly.
And after the murals are either covered or destroyed Howard Zinn’s “A People’s History of the United States” will be forever banned.
I don’t doubt it; Zinn and a whole lot more…
I was cheered to read that the murals had been “saved” rather than nuked Bamiyan Buddha style but small comfort knowing they are to be covered up “permanently” or at least until some more enlightened people come along in time (assuming the Human Beans manage not to self destruct in the mean time.) sigh.
Glad dogs are doing well. I bet Aggie is happy for the canine company!
Of course I should have known that the great mural was done by Viktor Arnautoff, our drawing instructor in the ’60s at Stanford!
The very same; a gentleman [and a Commie!] of considerable stature.
“completely destroyed” or “permanently covered” Kind of like Life in Prison or the electric chair.
I immediately thought of “Give me Liberty or give me Death”. But that’s probably just apples and oranges. Nevertheless it’s pretending that we never had slavery. But the fact is that we did.
Never had slavery, never perpetrated systematic genocide [not only wiping out the peoples but destroying their food sources as well]…makes you wonder what these so-called anti-racists are actually covering up, doesn’t it?
The irony for me and deep it is, those paintings were radical for the time as they showed the hypocrisy in our fervid telling of America’s proud, free and democratic origins. Back in the day, conservatives were fulminating I am sure about defaming our first Prez. My history classes were a total whitewash – even more than I thought I realize after reading last Sunday’s NYTimes Magazine (18 August) which offers a lot of explanations about things I wondered about. …. from an African American point of view.
Those two new dogs are difficult for me to tell apart. Is it easier in the flesh?
We were, of course, fed all sorts of white-[emphasis on the “white”]-washed shit, and Viktor cut through it…with a certain truth. Not sure exactly what these visually illiterates think they’re up to but it could – just could – be a white supremacist gambit. In Our Troubled Times ya just never know, do ya?
As for the dogs, yep, hard to sort out in the wild though when they’re both together Sumi’s definitely smaller. And has the sillier hair-do.
