Libre; 2018 ends

with two bright blue days during which I happily entertained myself with the belated discovery of Jack Whitten, whose posthumous catalog from the Met was an excellent introduction.

Meanwhile despite insanely unreal temperatures and lunch on the porch the

anticipated weather required dry wood be laid in for the last day of the year which was

almost [but not quite] too cold to snow and seventy degrees cooler than the previous one.

[quiet New Year’s Eve dinner not shown]

First day of 2019 was almost [but not quite] too cold to go out,

second day, warmer, third day brought a cold morning and

Pueblo!

We made it to Pueblo for “Vice”*, three separate shoppings and were at Jorge’s  in time for Luz, three days out of Brooklyn, to call from one stop up the freeway with a flat, duly fixed at Good Guys Tire around the corner once the pork and avocado burritos and tacos de camarones

had been voraciously [by then it was after two] dispensed with.

All well ended well with all concerned ensconced [and less concerned] at various Libre locations

by sunset.  Which was followed by yet another intensely blue day

warm enough for porch-lunching.

The weekend ensued,

Luz’ little family [Christine and Izel not shown] were reunited

and come Monday he and I set off for Colorado Springs,

picked up the last pieces of Linda’s show at the Ent Center and emptied the pod of their

Essential Possessions into the rental truck which, after another round of pork and avocado burritos, were in turn distributed between the Habib, Luz’ Jetta and his mother’s Tacoma,

the latter two then taken back up into the hills as night fell.

*Which we liked, a lot, and though I felt GW Bush could have been portrayed more fulsomely  his freshman year roommate from Yale subsequently assured me he was even more of an idiot than depicted.  What is it with these Repuppetlicans, anyway…and HOW do they continue to pull it off?

Michael—-Do you mean to say it was almost 80 degrees one day?

Love what I assume is your painting snuck in among the other images……

Actually the gauge [admittedly in the sun, but outside] topped out around 94 on the 30th; the high for the 31st was 22. We’re back in Cali about the eighth of February…

Wow, the lighting on that third photo is amazing, the clarity of post-snowstorm blue skies are stunning and the ungodly temperature swings a bit unsettling (apocalyptic?)
Yum… gotta try those pork/avocado burritos y tacos camarones at Jorge’s before I die, for sure.
I did dally quite a while on this blog installment; de-railed by links to Jack Whitten, Met and Vice (when I clicked the link the movie trailer was prefaced by an aggressive “in my face” ad for the Wall by Donald himself… really surreal!)!

The ‘Wall’ propaganda coming up before the “Vice” trailer is one of the more draconian/disturbing things I’ve heard of in awhile…wowee; insidious, or whaaat?

Not a bad building, however, particularly as an art space [for a real disaster check out Liebskind’s Denver Art Museum…or anything he did, really] although those stainless steel heraldic sculptures around it don’t help…the landscaping will soften the effect in time – it’s only a year old at this point. Beautifully sited…

Out here on the central coast, what never sees the likes of that snow and that amazing light, the images are so appreciated. While I too was dazzled by the blue sky, I also loves the blue snow in #2.
