We’re trying sleeping

We’re trying sleeping more, sometimes with some success, and sleeping into Monday morning I found my show was up over there with people no longer here visiting it…Paula Z. Kirkeby, for instance, who was encouraging and raising the prices on everything, which was most gratifying.  She was my first dealer and I never really appreciated her as much as I should have, a way I feel about many people from my arrogant twenties and thirties.  She raised expectations, sold work for me and encouraged countless artists on the Peninsula and beyond.

In 1975 she sold “Enigma of the Sheldon Range” to a collector whom I subsequently met and who became not only a good friend but at one point, crossing through northern Nevada decades later, actually found analogues for that painting as well as, less surprisingly as it had been done from photos taken onsite, a 1977 “Duferrena” painting he owned. The morning after I’d gone looking for his old blog post about that trip was when I dreamt of Paula.

Dreaming and sleeping in strange and uneasy times where perhaps the uneasiest news comes

in through the mail slot…no information on the back that hadn’t been circulated weeks before

but that wasn’t the point; America’s simply supposed to acknowledge who the Foremost Authority is…creepy, but a great free reelection ploy for a person many have called the “worst president in history” who will certainly be the worst president in history EVER reelected. It was nice of them to allow the drastically eviscerated “loser” CDC a little space in the lower right, right?

Me, I just bemuse myself worrying over symptoms [a mysterious dizziness, mainly] that

have nothing to do with The Symptoms and woke March 24th to the sound of jackhammers in the alley, earlier than city ordinances allow but, hearing Spanish spoken, hopeful that the people who will fix the ATT problem had finally arrived. Unfortunately by the time the dogs had been separately walked the alley was clear, the hole a little bigger and a light rain [not shown]

falling.  After breakfast another round of humans showed up to delineate what should have

been delineated a week ago but finally, miraculously, the MBAs were back in their bucket trucks

with a cute little tent to knit their myriad wires together while I, hidden away in the studio with my intermittent dizziness, was painting my way out of business as I came to the end of the stretchers Eva had traded me for back when she and John moved out of the Mission in 2017…
