March will be March…

…unlike February, which felt like April but looked like winter, a week of March’s whiplash weather is reassuringly typical.

Typical too, of the season, is the migration of Brent’s sheep, walked 180 miles from Lovelock to the shearing sheds at Buffalo Meadows, then turned loose onto the desert south of us to lamb;

P1190308

P1190309

Being March, there were winds;

P1190316

P1190320

P1190329

Brilliant mornings, volatile weather [snow flurries, snow squalls, winds again]…

P1190330

P1190338

P1190348

P1190350

P1190353

P1190355

P1190360

And a noticeably full moon….followed by more sheep, and the migration of a trailer;

P1190366

P1190368

P1190370

P1190380

P1190381

After lunch at the somewhat chill lunchpond  we observed sandsnakes on the playa

P1190381a

P1190383

P1190385

P1190385a

P1190386

P1190401

P1190414

so another other day…

P1190422

P1190425

P1190431

P1190432

P1190434

Friday awake from 1:30 to six when thanks to Danielle at Guntert Steel L. has to be up and away to intercept the delivery originally scheduled for Monday, so we see the sun rise…

P1190435

after which she heads off for California and I, closing up, make it to the gate an hour later and  point myself zombie-like south and west as well;

more from there.

      The sheep have come through every year around mid- March, usually spaced about day apart. We saw two bands…led by Great Pyrenees, patrolled by Border Collies, followed by Chileans and preceded by traditional a sheepherder trailer towed slowly by an aging pickup truck.
      I don’t know of anyone making cheese, however.

      Shouldn’t “Haooy ” be spelled with an “e”, as in “Haooey”

      …or yahooey; thank for your good wishes.

    Some of the most beautiful skies you have yet shown us, and the light and dark play on the mountains and playa is just amazing. And what the hey are sand snakes? creepy to think about!
    and indeed Happy Celebration Day.
    btw, the organ and sofa disappeared today….

      …and a happy Easter, too…sand snakes, according to my estimable friend Bill Fox, are “environmentally caused” and, in our observations, made up of rather granular particles.

      Hope the sofa and organ [ha! not shown here] found a good home…
