Meanwhile, in another frame of reference, far far away, it’s Boring, Man…and this year they expect 80,000 celebrants though if the lameness of the webcast* is any indication no one
will be getting their monies’ worth…well, depends what you like, like…
Given days of Nothing art ‘n’ archaeology continued
and following an unlikely night of continual thunder and subtle rains
we all again attained
the Steps after which I continued on,
finding the old trail occluded just
before the fence line
where Dazzle’s Last Stick** was growing itself a Memorial Tree.
I made it to the Pine, first time
since September 28, 2021…”in a yellow El Camino list’nin’ to Howlin’ Wolf”…well not really but meanwhile huge thanks to Rolling Stone for proclaiming “Carwheels on a Gravel Road” the sixth best “country” album ever and reminding us of it so after estudios we had a most pleasant evening of pork chops revisiting said “country” album before I checked in on Black Rock City;
a memorable Night to Burn or be bored, looked like, and so to bed. In the morning the view was much the same out there [maybe someone forgot to clean the lens?] but here, ah;
Sunday was a Day of Somethings, beginning with a belated trip
up for, as it turned out, everyone;
8540′ again…with piñonero and
even Aging Aggie making it the entire warm way, then latish lunch, early
abbreviated studio visit,
a short sore walk and soon
to La Veta for young Nancy Haynes’ 75th birthday, hosted generously by herself at Alys’ across
from Adrienne and Mary’s with news from near and – N. having recently had a well-received show*** in Vienna – far as well as lovely food, a Lodi Zin and home across Yellowstone in the dark without incident. Labor Day, latish getting started, had the Something of Mary Ann bringing garden bounties during breakfast so our abbreviated [just up the knoll, seeming like nothing after twice to the Pine] walk took til near noon but no matter. It was hot, though not as
hot as California; Burn-icia, for instance, topped out at around an unheard of 108…by the Bay.
We, fortuitously twenty degrees off that mark, took a last small walk
and finished out the Weekend with corn and bunless burgers [unshown, with onion], summer 2022 “officially” ended. But the beat goes on; over the holiday one of those ubiquitous Stepford Federalist Judges unprecedentedly ruled to insulate the Fatshit Whiner from that nasty nasty DOJ…onwards, Amerika! How could He “remain” President if [justifiably] indicted for high treason?
*The gold standard for BM webcasts was years ago when it began with whoever was doing it loading up from some secure undisclosed location which looked very like the coastal mountains of southern southern California and continued, with few glitches or interruptions, down dirt roads to a freeway, up 395 [an audiobook of Orwell’s “1984” playing much of the time] to 447 and onto the desert where the camera was installed and functioned through the entire event even unto “exodus” with its attendant warnings, pleas to help find lost keys or people or rides. Gave a great sense of the event. This year, worst of the worst [it seems to have been cut off during the whiteout the morning after the Burn], it came online late and most times I checked was frozen…or impenetrable dust; disappointingly amateurish. Well, the dust looked professional enough, yikes.
**Dazzle, a most unique Border Collie mix, left her last stick at that spot descending from the Lone Pine in January 2008 and expired suddenly an hour later, less than eight years old.

Congrats on attaining the pine! And more for repeating that feat! And to Aggie, for joining the fun!
I do like the image of the giant spider in your lampshade! Very clever!
“…can’t find a damn thing in this place…”

“….there goes a screen door slamming’ shut
You better do what you’re told….”
Thanks for following down that rabbithole, Ollie…
The left archeological object may be a broken prehistoric clarinet.
and then we have Men Burned by their Expectations. Oh well, how often can one do that?
Burned Beyond their wildest expectations…
