Over the Hill

Monday evening; a last look from the gate and

then, ten above zero at seven in the morning, time for a bracing walk before breakfast and

down the desert by 8:20 where

it became progressively and unexpectedly

snowier down south

and, under Honey Lake’s ice fog,

colder, too.

After Doyle it was mid-teens and mostly dry pavement to a deserted [no Lotto jackpots today] Hallelujah Junction, 70 west to Vinton, 49 around Sierra Valley – Loyalton, Sierraville –

then 89 to 80 where dire warnings repeated dramatically all the way

over the hill.  Below 4000′ the temperature finally got above freezing and we made Benicia in

time for a chile verde burrito, Sumi still skunky.  Although the storm disappointingly

dissipated overnight it renewed itself late Wednesday and wore coldly damply on unto

Thursday, all day.

The week’s end brightened us up considerably

and before one Friday we were on our way to Vacaville’s

Kaiser Hospital, after which, despite an overwhelming compulsion to rush donations to

the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation*, we felt relieved to have dispensed with one of Life’sLooming Uncertainties.  That night on the news we learned that even Mighty Kaiser has only enough vaccine to cover 9% of their over 75 population so, fortunate indeed.  Damn.

Plus now I can ascribe all my Disturbing Symptoms to the ostensible side effects.

Nevertheless…

*In actuality I give no more credence to the idea that the vaccines are an excuse for the Deep State to inject everyone with mini Microsoft microchips than I do the Pedophilic Pizza Parlor Conspiracies or the unsustainable** rumor that Donald Trump won the 2020 election.  We do seem to have a rather alarming number of our Fellow Americans who fervently [and then some] believe all that and more because the Internet and/or Q told them so…but the Right has been so wrong about so much for so long that who can a Patriot trust?

**Infinitely sustained, however, by an ongoing drumbeat of lies working on behalf of whose ends we’d rather not speculate.  Except oboy would we…

Congratulations on getting over the hill and safely home before multiple feet of snow fell on the Sierra. Although the “significant event” predictions proved over-blown, at least 1-80 didn’t suffer the fate of Hwy 1 in Big Sur (seriously washed away)!
Even more congratulations to you & L for procuring the precious vaccine! Although vaccine efficacy is being debated, today the NY Times says in “a
representative group of 75,000 American adults it (the coronavirus) has killed roughly 150 and sent several hundred more to the hospital. Based on research trials, the vaccines reduce those numbers to ZERO and nearly zero”. By comparison, a normal flu season kills 5 to 15 adults in that group and sends over 100 to the hospital. So, Bro, just don’t get the flu!
Let us know when you get jab #2!

#2s are set for February 26th…and, as of today, it’s February already. We did get, in a very efficient drive-by operation, flu shots earlier. Not that that’s a sure thing…
