The first day of it started off a little flaky, but broke to sunshine…
… in time for us to slog through fresh slippery snow to the Lone Pine before lunch; a worthy beginning.
[Sunset walks and sunny mornings, in and out of small snows, all week]
Thanks to Teresa the books kept coming; Stephen Shore and Larry Sultan, two excellent photographers poles apart and Herms and Judd, a couple of sculptors even further removed; “California Boys”, as Dave Hickey said of George Herms, and must be said of Larry [and myself] as well…and east coasters, lots to think about, compare and contrast, yeh. Then Joe Sacco’s not very comical graphic reportage from Bosnia, 1992-1996. Lots to think about…
The table shows snows ebbs and flows; after a festive Saturday dinner the lights came off Crystal Vessel for another year, leaving only lights from the sky to sustain us…
[Even with the snowmelt one strand was still stuck in a block of ice at the bottom of the sculpture until Monday][not shown]
But Monday, a last sunset, and Den…
Ver!…to come, or rather go up to, tomorrow…

does the weight of the bricks on the table help to keep it for warping or is there some other point?
over here it’s always a question of heating , have you just wood stoves? (always a practical curiousity)
otherwise it’s hard to beat those sunsets
the weight of the bricks keeps the table from warping through winter; in summer we take them off…and, yes, that little woodstove does a VERY good job of heating L’S 20×32′ studio…there’s also a small gas heater in the kitchen and some equally modest electrics for cloudy days, but if the sun shines [as it often does] passive solar keeps the house 20 to 30 degrees warmer than outside…more, even…
Wow, the photographic hits just keep coming (with the missives); all beautiful!
Libre looks so amazing this time of year and the changing weather, spectacular sunsets and cleverly composed shots all add up to quite a compelling portfolio. Sounds like your bounty of books is equally attractive….Happy New Year indeed!
Wow! Fantastic shots! Kirk better watch out….you’re going after the Family Photography Championship.
I like the dog deciding between the two roads, both less traveled. Also, the blurry door reflection, but somehow the scenery to the right is clear…hmmmmm.
Wow, Mike. The shots – the place – are stunning. Libre looks alot like Wall Spring with a touch of Radar thrown in. I know Larry Sultan’s work which I tend to thing of as The Art of the Snapshot, but Stephen Shore is new (I’ll have to check him out).
