Onwards, towards August [first grandchild, last car] and beyond…

A bit before July’s end comes the arrival of Luz, Christine, grandchild Izel, Lola the Pitbull and Boxer the Cat [not shown], straight outa Brooklyn the day before L and I make yet another trip of errands to Pueblo;

P1120960P1120966P1120973P1120976P1120978P1120983

… a trip majorly distracted by trying to figure out if the more recent [but soon to be superseded] Tacomas, for all their increased size, really have much more room inside than ours.  Which they kinda do, though they also have a wealth of ‘improvements’ that turn the dash into something resembling a video game console. We go home.

Anyway, that little detour made us nearly late for a happy potluck attended by most of Libre at the party site and then the last evening of the month was given over to a dinner for Luz’ cousins though at least that we were home, unlike Saturday with its trip to the Farmer’s Market, Post Office [no mail – erk!] and dump followed by a tour of ye olde commune led partly by Linda in what became a welcome but ill-timed rainstorm…

That night, ah, yet another dinner, this for us plus four, lubricated with Cava and aided by Luz’ barbecuing expertise.

Sunday, with regrets to the neighbors down the road, we stayed home, unable to rise to the local norm of partying ev’ry night of the week, instead using the time to rehang the bathroom door and prep the old Tacoma for a voyage into another life as during Friday’s other activities Linda had culminated a deal for a 4x4xfourdoor 2015 right off the showroom floor…

Meaning August’s first Monday we made a last run to Pueblo in the nimble little ’98 to spend three hours at Toyota exchanging Taco Verde and a whole lotta money for Taco Blanco and, elated but exhausted, back to the Bessemer for a celebratory meal before that long road home;

Attaining home a bit past three [without having to rely, fortunately, on the so-called “map” in the game console] allowed L. to spend an hour, mostly on hold with the USPS, trying to locate our lost last mail…

Once parked it was hard to lure Lefty out of the back seat, but life must go on, and it does…

[last car we may ever own, if the one before it was any indication…]

    I could care less about that white trash, but the cars in the fifth foto ……where did THEY come from,
    off another lot?

    I’m liking….
    – Smiling Christine and ‘Mr Serious’ Izel
    – Izel & Linda
    – Izel & Luz.
    Put those 3 together, perhaps?
    Then, there’s the ‘never to be seen again’ theme:
    – Spotless undercarriage of showroom truck
    – Peeling the TRD decal off Taco Blanco
    – final shot: a clean white truck.
    The ‘Map thingy’ is clearly under-engineered, but then…. I’m spoilt on that front 🙂

    I’m afraid I am with Bryan on this one….that white thing is your truck?
    I’m speechless….and you know how rare that is!

      That “white thing” is Linda’s new truck. After years of trying to get me to trade in mine, which for reasons financial as well as disgust with what the market offers I refused;, The Tundra needing work we drove down here in her very cool ’98 with rack, overload springs etc. after which she decided what with it being 15 years old, kinda cramped and with failing A/C that the trip back [as well as future trips, 2400 mile round trips for two 70+ year-olds who maybe don’t relish being stranded by the side of the road, winter and/or summer] would be more sure and comfortable in something more contemporary. Riding in it does make me long to be out crashing gears in the ’45, but, soporific as it feels [I haven’t driven it yet, but the stereo’s quite excellent] it’s an investment for whatever the Future holds, hey…not mine, but fine.

    Congrats on new truck—-maybe not the last. Ya never know. Looks like fun being had by all. John is here at last. Would be great to see you two before we leave at the end of this month. Dinner?
