well, California. Where one remains on the run, somewhat. First Vallejo to choose glasses, returning with a detour into a yard full of sixties Chevys to inquire about the problematic rot
above the Tundra’s windshield [no easy answers] before, at last, two uninterrupted days
around home, studio and Inkies.
Water, water everywhere
but not enough drops to sustain the land it would seem this season…
One of those two quiet days encompassed a quiet birthday
followed by Thursday wherein
we were again braving Highway 37 [not so bad of a weekday morning] as far as
the Lakeville Highway on which we trailed “Sandstorm” into Petaluma where
our friend Rick is transferring his cabinets of wonders from Hampstead
into a classic California house after many years in London. Grand tours and a soporific lunch al fresco on the patio pleasantly preceded a return to the Lakeville which without a Sandstorm
to contend with wasn’t bad at all but 37 at 3:30 made for an excruciating hour
of nearly stationary traffic idling idly nearly to Vallejo which barely got us home in time
to feed the uneasy dogs, to their great relief. Things settled and cooled sufficiently
[Thursday was unusually warm everywhere] to necessitate taking subsequent lunches in
the warmth of the Industrial Luncheonette although “unusually warm everywhere”
does not entirely account for spring’s greeneries being…not.
But that was Easter 2021 in California…gone now and at least for us, despite
no E-Bunny, no E-Snake…oh well, it was swell.
Contrail and cornice photo is stunning.
We just sit there by the barby, looking up and waiting for something to happen. Cornice belongs to the old State Capitol, a state park.
Well, we’re having a bit of drought in Chianti too, over two months without a drop. Kind of surprised about Rick, leaving England for the sunny weather?
Mr. Watson’s motivation was to be nearish his children, all of whom are in Cali at the moment with grandchild five minutes away in Petaluma…he’s been meaning to exit even before Brexit and finally managed it just before last year’s disastrous fire season here. Found a wonderful house [online] and moved in…
