could Ai Wei Wei possibly serve as an antidote to all that Other News? Maybe for me*…but
meanwhile in other news here we were already a few days into April before February
finally loosened its grip on the upper desert, bringing sun with a bit – just a bit – of warmth.
It thus began to feel almost like March in the watercolor corner and mudroom but was still
too chill to eat out comfortably…afternoons were pleasant, however, and we did have the
considerable pleasure of a moon most full midweek.
Thursday the year’s first birds’ songs began to be heard on our circuit around the ponds
and lunch out, though windy, was almost habitable.
The Repo remained a bit cold for working in but
that sun in the studio sure felt fine…
mornings, however,
brought belly-dumping dogs
to the house, albeit more birds without
and eventually a final, more comfortable, lunch on the porch.
One could not, however, honestly say the colors stayed anything beyond a wintry monochrome
…not yet, anyway, as was abundantly clear Saturday morning although
by then it was sufficiently warm
for breakfast on the porch, affording a last look at our ephemeral lake before
heading down the highway past that Other Lake
for gas in Wadsworth and back to
fun-loving California
where, after mysterious traffic congestions crossing the valley and a forty minute delay to
reach the Benicia waterline repair on 680 South, we
finally made it home, a little over an hour longer than usual but with time enough for a person,
if so inclined, to hide eggs** from the Zombie Jesus and/or other curious northern hemispheric Springtime rituals. Or not.

**Surely these would be snake eggs and the egg laying bunny myth should be laid to rest, no? The Easter Snake, not some rabbit, lays eggs [arguably, in the grass].
