Caution…

Objects in rearview mirror may Not Exist.  A likely analog for memory generally…or so I ruminated, heading for the freeway on another Wednesday morning

and out across the valley, wide loads abounding though actually they became even more

prevalent later, that being after the Yolo Bypass, a

tirecheck at Heather Glen*, uneventfully

over the hill to 89

which proved quite treacherous** towards the end and thirteen degrees

all through Sierra Valley which was where I intersected the many wide, sometimes very wide, loads incoming on 49…though going where I couldn’t figure; up the steep icy two-lane to Truckee?  Yuba Pass didn’t seem likely either, but there they were.

East of the mountains the temperatures were more moderate, 32 degrees in Doyle, the usual

dreadful dirt roads out of there but once into Nevada*** things improved.  I stopped for a chilly

late lunch just before the Sand Pass Road, snow all gone, winter light and dung,

then Sand Pass itself, up the desert, over Smoke Creek proper

and Wall Spring,

wearily relieved to sorely unload.

Thursday, dogless as since Cosmos wouldn’t get in the truck Linda’d enticed Sumi out to stay

with him/them for The Duration, it was steaming ponds and a cold low sun, all swell with the world.

*This new [to me] Tundra has a helpful feature which alerts one when the tires are low or, in this case, even a little diminished due to ambient temperatures or some other variant…several trips to Big O to check them and finally reset the the sensor[s] seemed to have worked until about an hour out of town when the little symbol began flashing yet again, hence the stop at Heather Glen; everything fine except it keeps flashing. An unwanted annoyance…

**A van off the road just after Little Truckee Summit, CHP all over it and slippery ice to the bottom which was quite a contrast to the dry pavement from the turn off 80 until then.

***Not that dreadful; just annoyingly washboardy due to Cali’s less than competent off highway road maintenance or somethin’.
