He not busy being born…

[Spring, 2017, above]    Last Sunday afternoon Linda arrived

with the much-diminished Lefty and all were very glad to be reunited.  That evening he happily ate a little salmon and not so happily threw it up an hour or so later.  He was not well, perhaps

soon to go so we postponed further action as new lives erupted and

old lives, our lives, went on although Monday morning the idea that a couple of old guys

could lift six deep-cycle batteries off the ground into a pickup unaided

proved wildly optimistic.  Fortunately Dave had the mini-x on his trailer en route

to another job, allowing us a mechanical assist.

Later I called a friend in Surprise Valley who knew someone who might have come to ease

Lefty’s departure but failed to reach her so after another sad night and Scott’s heroic delivery of The Forgotten Computer called the vet in Alturas to see what could be done and we arranged

to take that last ride Wednesday morning first thing.

First thing, last thing….last sunset.
