Aw, shit!

9/11 may have worked once as Reppuppetlican magic numbers but this time the numbers could be a little more outa control, and not only for being uncomfortably close to the 78th anniversary of Kristallnacht.

I woke, 11/9,

p1050281 p1050282p1050283

to find I’d been wrong about Donnie; the speech, though boiler-plated, was surprisingly gracious and inclusive. I didn’t believe a word of it [the only true thing he ever said was earlier; “It’s all rigged, folks”

p1050285p1050286

…and this season, with Assange, Comey and most importantly the evisceration of the Voting Rights Act [not to mention those voting machines nobody ever mentions anymore] the Repups proved the Bigger Riggers], but it was a surprise -“Presidential” – nonetheless. A BIG surprise…

p1050294p1050295

So for five hours driving down we had fair and balanced NPR in endless bewilderment within their informational feedback loop and no mention of any of the above.  Between Doyle and Hallelujah Junction I heard Hill, in full, calling for Unity; a little more steely than the prezelect and what a sad end to a long and dedicated career – the most qualified candidate, probably ever, losing to a bozo huckster who just happened to tap the zeitgeist, proving a “real” man can trump a wonk in a pantsuit, bigtime, every time.  Well, that’s America fer ya’…take it

or leave it

which, come the dawn, helped.

p1050329p1050334

Donald in, Leonard out…definitely a net loss; I spent the evening listening to “You Want it Darker”, Mr. Cohen’s generous and final offering, then awoke on Planet Polluto, which happens around here with some frequency thanks to the fossil fools making fossil fuels all around us.

and Friday’s Fiesta; a dozen or so friends and colleagues celebrating Linda’s Impending Award [and belated apologies to those unaware of that; the email announcement went straight into “sent” many weeks ago without ever actually sending] on an evening warm enough to spend hours in the garden eating, drinking, talking and only peripherally commiserating.

we made it home just barely before Sunday with the straits obscured.  The fog later lifted to reveal a nice ’48 Ford down at the end of West E Street.

p1050422 p1050423

After lunch was a lengthy Skype, or rather Facetime [better reception but inferior resolution], with the kids, into and out of which I dropped while packing followed by

Well, later on that.

It may be that I am growing into your ‘format’, but I feel like the rhythm of the images and writing flows more and more in effective ways. This was a particularly wonderful passage. The photos, the commentary, very poignant for me with my attachment to landscapes. Brave,BRAVA for Linda. Recognition for a job well done is always welcome!
I had a bad feeling when I bought some cookies at a bakery in Evanston and they were selling Hillary cookies and Donald cookies. The Donald was comfortably ahead. For me, the candidates for his appointments are even scarier than he!!!

The appointees get scarier and scarier…and the motives behind them worse than that. Bad feelings? Beware The Jared!

There is a shop in East Hampton which has been selling coffee mugs at the time of presidential for I think about 30 years, and they are inscribed for one or the other candidate. Every election they have sold the most for the winning candidate, and usually from very early on. This year it was reported about 2 weeks after they stocked the shelves that the Trump mugs were outselling the Clinton mugs by a large percentage. And this in East Hampton, though of as a deeply Democratic town. (HRC did with the local vote by a squeaker.)

Linda looks so beautiful in the photos, but more about the lab tests, please. Friendship is all the more precious these days…

Lab tests were boring…suffice it to say I have to take an annoying array of antibiotics for another week which will hopefully be the end of it…

Michael: This is a particularly splendid series of photos. And all taken with that small camera you deployed at Linda’s exhibition closing and award ceremony. What an achievement as artist teacher and teacher! Ann and I were honored to be there as fans and witesses. Although separated from the party at our table for two we felt part of the celebration. And our dinners came much faster!
As for the politcal disaster, I find myself an American Casandra warning about a dark age future. We must find some avenue to avoid full catastrophe. But the reassuring vision of American values and ideals has proven to be worse than just illusory, and I fear that will be the case for many years of far right wing extremism. The damage is done. The victory to Steve Bannon and Breitbart. Woe is us. Paul
    P.s. please share with Linda.

Your expansive landscape photos are re-assuring and therapeutic between the bitter reality of captions.
Nicely done. I am definitely staying tuned for your next installment, hoping the lab results will much less ominous than eventual electoral consequences.

Kudos again to Linda…what a great satisfaction after years of devotion to the students and the process, if those can be separated.
We have been listening to Leonard’s last album as well.
Hoping for good news from the lab!

Summed up well! Seems eerily familiar of ’00 with the better qualified candidate winning the Popular Vote, but losing the Electoral College again…exit polls baffle the experts and yet this time no one questions the machines, despite so many very surprised?

WITH THAT SAID: we live in Repiglicanville here in AZ and Trump signs/stickers abound, so I’m not totally surprised despite remaining disappointed in the American electorate…..or at least the 1/2 that showed up to vote.
