Acclimatization…

Acclimatization, both to the altitude and the insanity of the summer social season at

the Vacation Destination [also our Destination if not strictly for Vacations], came slowly.

What with the Lost Wednesday it took some fortuitous quiet on the porch,

Aggie’s quick adjustment to the local parfumeries notwithstanding,

and, once sufficiently recovered to make it up the nearer hill, a visit

to our nearest dear neighbor’s and back

through the woods…the woods repeatedly…to finally begin settling in.

Saturday rolled around with more than twenty visitants [only eight of whom were expected]

leaving us, after a lively dinner for ten, a little burnt out.

Sunday, sunny day initially, Luz packed up the last of his sound studio [not shown] as

this week he, Izel and Christine will be in Vancouver to set up for life in British Columbia.

…crazy major changes.

Meanwhile for me there’s always the “what if” thought, cruising up and down Monday’s

summertime internet about the same time that Luz and Christine reached Denver to discover that their flight from DIA to Vancouver had been cancelled…the perils of flying discounted third-world carriers. Somehow Christine prevailed and they scored a non-stop, saving the day.

In the interim all we managed were another couple of small walks with Aggie and her new

roommate Lola the pit bull [see below],

an inspection of Christine’s adobe remnants,

dinner on the porch, dinner in due to wind

and a trip to Pueblo

where a Corvette club was enlivening Jorge’s at noon.

We enjoyed the asymmetry of the decor before blowing by a time-warped psychedelic bus

laboring up the hill south of Colorado City [they obviously hadn’t upgraded the engine] and

so on

into the Huerfano

to hear that that Luz and Christine, less than 48 hours out of Denver, had arrived, secured their work visas, opened bank accounts, found a house, signed the lease, registered Izel in a nearby school and discovered some of the best sushi ever just around the corner. Kids these days…

They’ll be back Saturday to load a trailer, drag it to Brooklyn, add the contents to a truck with all their NYC possessions and send it west, Luz and Lola following overland while Izel and Christine fly ahead to take up her new position at Emily Carr University

phew…
