So this one’s actually Fish Creek Mountain [7081′], Blowout [7128]<\/a> being hidden behind but once on 8A SSW it was all faster roads for awhile, past a suspiciously opulent construction site<\/a> on the way to the Badger Mountain\/Summit Lake Road which, tending<\/p>\n

more SSE, was not much slower and quite entertaining despite some enormously unanticipated<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

puddles and a whole hillside of lilac-colored juniper remnants lit up in a burn zone as I descended [there was a lot of descending involved] only to be brought up short by a long line<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

of pickups from many different government agencies [tribal included] not exactly parked in the road. I pulled in behind and walked down the line finding not only every one empty<\/a> but no one<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

anywhere. Bizarre; went back to the truck and drove half in the sagebrush tentatively past<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

all eleven to get the hell out of there…Spooky.<\/p>\n

Afterwards a decent descent continued unto the Summit Lake Reservation<\/a> where solar powered surveillance devices oversee the boundaries within which there’s now a sign where<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

a much improved Soldier Meadows Road takes off around the lake<\/a>. As the country trended<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

lower, browner and warmer the road [not shown] was as rocky and scrambly as ever<\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

as it dropped to Soldier Meadows Ranch<\/a> after which things sped up again for miles though<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

it was definitely a relief to get off the washboards and onto the windy desert <\/a>opposite<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Black Rock Point<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

…at least until Twelvemile, where the pavement of 34 offered further relief down to CR447<\/p>\n

where as I rounded the curve at Deep Hole<\/a> what to my wandering eyes should appear but the morning’s cattle hauling convoy now southbound, “Save America” bringing up the rear<\/p>\n

just before the Smoke Creek turn, and home to find people discussing\u00a0 WiFi as opposed to the contemplation of Alien Abductions…<\/p>\n

So that [in three parts] was the day trip, 06\/12\/2025; 269 miles, eight hours and<\/p>\n
