Same ol’ skies, but comfortably coolish for latish June, fortuitously<\/p>\n

not only for work but also because L. was finally in residence following her Nebraska<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

[and other] adventures inspiring, despite mild dissuasion, me to remove the 2011 watercolors<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

from the north wall of the Repo and substitute two early Duferrena paintings, an inadvertent diptych originally painted right to left on Page Street in early 1978.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Ah, those were the days.<\/p>\n

These below form a not-quite-inadvertent triptych, panning from right to left with the small<\/p>\n

The last Thursday here there were errands in town so I went from Wall [just above Parker Ranch on the Benchmark below] into Gerlach and then took the opportunity<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

for a diversion around the west side of Godey’s<\/a> and, in sand and slowness,<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

over to Phil siding, beyond which one sees<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Parker Ranch [left of post] and Wall Spring [right of post]…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

or just the Buffs.<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Or south along the Fox Range,<\/a> hey.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

After that it was over to the LADWP road to follow their DC lines SW<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

to a light lunch with a view to the southern reaches of the Black Rock<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

as electrical trickles crackled.\u00a0 I followed the towers into the San Emidio as far as<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Cottonwood Canyon, a place I’d never been on a road<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

that soon decided it would be better off persevering into the bushes but<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

eventually reached the cottonwoods<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

and, though both maps promised better, not much further.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Continuing afoot I found tamarisk,<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

water, willows,<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

and faint ATV tracks…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Supposedly there was a mine up in there somewhere<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

but I turned back,<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

back down to the truck to back out and<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

turn around at evidence of a former habitation where now<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

only a rudimentary hunting camp – firepit, table, shade – remained.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And Empire across the valley…but yet<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Wall Spring was only an hour away up the powerline road, across the tracks to Godey’s<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

and, with a soundtrack** <\/a> suspiciously<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

similar to the Alturas excursion’s,<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

back to Wall, 2:30.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

A small adventure…<\/p>\n
