“This is your Captain speaking….

we are going down; we are all going down…together”  [Laurie Anderson, “Big Science” 1982]

I have a Miles Davis button on my car radio; whenever NPR starts running yet another Great Booboo “press conference” I press it and on comes “Live at the Blackhawk, 1961”.  I’ve been using it a lot lately…

Meanwhile, the weather continues unsettled, as has been a certain dam [another miraculous product of the Army Corps of Engineers exacerbated by infinitely deferred [“it’s not raining now; maybe it won’t ever”] maintenance] up by Oroville. Though it’s not blown out yet and downstream we remain in mud

the current sequence of storms seems to be intermittently slightly slighter, so maybe it never will.  With days of dull light the spaces between become cause for way too many pictures of unaccustomed shadows, but hey, not much else happening…

I was there one of those nights as well, with a high school friend who was out on spring break from his first year at Wesleyan…during that trip we laid plans to drive his Jeep to Central America the next summer, and did, though only got as far as El Salvador.
The two cd’s [ok; antiquated technologies, I know] I have are Friday Night and Saturday night; Friday’s in rotation here in the house on the desert but Saturday’s been in the truck forever. Ah, a rainy night at the Blackhawk; can’t get enough of that long gone scene…

Yes, I would love one of those buttons. Your mention of the Blackhawk reminded me about going there as a high school student to hear the Modern Jazz Quartet. They had a special caged off section for minors. I was accompanied by one of the very nice medical students who lived at our house.

The button is called “CD” which goes directly to Miles, the only CD in there…very helpful.
